How To Thrive As a Mother and a Photographer!

Looking back on my 14 years of building my 6 figure photography business from the ground up while being the mum of two little boys, the biggest challenge for me is TIME.

When I started, I was young and free. I worked 80 hours a week. I had all the freedom and time to build my business.

Passion is energy. When you do what you love, it’s not work.

However, once I became a mother, my world totally changed. I was burnt out from working long hours while at the same time looking after my new family.

I didn’t have the energy to continue the same working style and to manage everything in my life.

You might ask, how do you achieve all the successes by working much less hours now?

One of the biggest changes in my newborn photography business is the session workflow.

I used to spend long hours on my newborn sessions without making the money I deserve.

I was overwhelmed with the newborn session workflow and didn’t know what order would work best.

My sessions used to take 3 or 4 hours. My clients were exhausted, and I was exhausted too.

After such a long session, I needed to put all the props back into storage and then separately wash the differently coloured dirty clothes and wraps.

The worst thing was that I have two little school-age boys myself. I often ran late to pick them up because of the long newborn sessions, or I had to ask my friends to pick them up – it made me feel so anxious and so guilty as a mother!

I realised I couldn’t carry on like this. So I created my simple and streamlined newborn session workflow, and it transformed my newborn photography and the way I run my business.

I focus on the flow of the babies, capturing their uniqueness and real moments, and I’m also able to create an experience that my clients and I enjoy.

This allows me to achieve higher sales, more referrals, and happy repeat clients because of the great experiences they had and all the photos are about them.

I’m now achieving higher profits by working fewer hours in my business and have more time to spend with my family.

Don’t get me wrong; I love what I do!  I could spend 24 hours a day creating beautiful photos and working on my business.

But I’m a mother of two young boys and a wife. I have family, friends, and my life.

We choose to be entrepreneurs so that we can do what we love, make a difference in the world and have the freedom to live the life we love.

Don’t work to live and miss out on the rich sense of fulfillment that meaningful entrepreneurship can provide.

I can tell you building a successful business might not be easy, but it can be simple.
